Ivan Horvatić
BIOGRAPHY
EN
Ivan Horvatić is one of the most talented Croatian pianists of the younger generation. Born in 1988, he started to play the piano quite late, at the age of ten, but soon discovered his passion for the instrument, followed by winning national and international piano competitions already as a music school student in the class of professor Carmen Lujić. Many prizes and concerts have opened him the possibility to enroll at the Zagreb Music Academy at the age of only 16, in the class of a world-renown professor Karl-Heinz Kammerling and professor Đorđe Stanetti. After graduating in 2008 with the highest grades at the Academy, the path led Ivan to Switzerland. Here, he started his Specialized Master Degree (Soloist diploma) in the class of professor Karl-Andreas Kolly. He continued winning competitions and giving concerts all around Switzerland (Tonhalle Zurich, St. Moritz, Basel, Bern, Baden etc.). As one of the selected pianists Ivan has been given the opportunity to participate at the Atlantic Music Festival in the USA, where he spent a month working with renown teachers, gave concerts and won the First International Piano Concerto Competition. In 2013, Ivan has graduated yet again with a Master degree in Music Pedagogy at the Zurich University of the Arts.
Ivan has participated in Masterclasses given by many famous pianists: Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (Germany), Karl-Andreas Kolly (Switzerland), Homero Francesch (Switzerland), Manana Kandelaki (Georgia/ Russia), Eugen Indjic (France), Vadim Rudenko (Ukraine), Gabriel Chodos (USA), Roger Muraro (France), Natalya Antonova (USA), Bruce Brubaker (USA); Joseph Irerra (USA) etc.
As a soloist, he played with orchestras in Croatia and abroad: Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, Chernigiv Philharmonic Orchestra, Atlantic Music Festival Orchestra, Symphony Orchestras of the Zagreb and Zurich Music Academies and many others. He has collaborated with conductors such as Marc Kissoczy, Jonathan Schiffman, Mikola Sukach, Aleksandar Kalajdžić and Tonči Bilić, Uroš Lajovic, Pavle Dešpalj and Mladen Tarbuk.Ivan is very passionate about chamber music, as well as contemporary music. He is also very interested in theatre and film.
REVIEWS
Dr.Sang Woo Kang, Pianist
“Croatian pianist Ivan Horvatic, who has just finished his second masters’ degree in Switzerland at the age of 23, concluded the program with Schumann’s Symphonic Etudes, a massive half-hour long set of twelve shorter piano pieces in theme and variation format. This is a piece which obviously demands a lot of stamina from the performer, as well as the audience, which Ivan had. His performance was fantastic, keeping the pieces lively and interesting with plenty of character. Despite the length, I noticed the audience nodding along to the beat throughout the piece, and it seemed as if they certainly enjoyed it a lot. I might also add that Ivan is the winner of this year’s concerto competition, and will be playing Beethoven’s first piano concerto with the AMF orchestra at the end of the festival.”
